A glimpse of Iceland

photo taken on the road to Laugarvatn

Today I'm sharing a couple of pictures from a road trip my friend and I took early October, D. was visiting me from Copenhagen and it was her first time in Iceland so I decided we do all the touristy stuff and venture into the countryside where we stayed at a summer house for one night, there we prepared ourselves dinner enough to serve an entire family, chilled in the hot tub, sipped on champagne and were way too hangover the next day. Nevertheless, we still got up and continued our adventure despite the depressing weather. Keep on reading if you're interested in seeing a glimpse of the Icelandic nature.

Kerið: [Kerid] is one of the many volcanic crater lakes in South Iceland. It's located in the Grímsnes area which is on the popular tourist route called the Golden Circle. The area is known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone as it includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier. What makes Kerið special is that the caldera, and other volcanic rocks in that very area are composed of a red volcanic rock as opposed to the usual black colour.

The day of our road trip the weather was definitely on our side. The sun was shining and as we drove on the scenery became even more beautiful as the sun was setting; although to be honest there wasn't much of 'sun-setting' going on... the sun just kind of disappeared hah. Anyway, it was really nice driving at that time of the day and also we left on day whereby the weekend was over so there wasn't a lot of traffic.
After about an hours drive from Kerið, we turned left to the road that goes to Laugarvatn and there were no cars in sight, the scenery was breathtaking and it was all very serene so we decided to stop and snap a few Tumblr approved shots. We had the entire road to ourselves so we did what we do best, posing and snapping away till one of us was fed up.
No, there wasn't another person who took this photo, it's simply setting the camera to 12 sec. and placing it on the car, walk back to your place and pose. We were surprised at how great the photo turned out to be as well as all of a sudden this car in the background showing up. They must've thought we were freaks.
our massive dinner
Once we had food, we chilled for a bit and then hit the hot tub where we spent a good 1-2 hours. Lucky us, we were quite high above see and we were able to see The Northen Lights for approx. 5 minutes.

Geysir: [The Great Geysir] is a geyser in the Haukadalur valley located in the southwestern part of Iceland. Haukadulur in on the slopes of Laugarfjall, there is also home to the Strokkur geyser. The hot springs of Geysir can erupt boiling water up to 70 meters in the air.
Gullfoss: [ Golden Falls]  is one of the most popular tourist attractions along with Geysir. It's located in the upper part of the river Hvítá in the southwest. It's about 10km away from Geysir and very easy to access. Both Geysir and Gullfoss along with one of our national parks Þingvellir, are a part of the so called Golden Circle. It's a great tour where you get to see the most popular tourist attractions all in one day. I'd highly recommend going on one of those tours if you're to visit Iceland.

I hope this post was enjoyable, quit long and picture-full but I wanted to  document everything in one post instead of making it into a three-part segment.
